Liwanag at Misteryo: a lecture series on katutubong karunungan


They are the last resort of even contemporary Western thinking Filipinos. They are the hilots, the albularyos and mambabarangs. Often looked at as ritual superstition, practitioners are actually keepers of ancient traditions and provide valuable clues to the Filipino psyche. Though on the surface, the imagery and Latin words mask an entire pantheon of celestial beings and personalities of the Dios Infinito and the Gumamela Coelis.
 
Learn about the art and philosophy of these shahmans, decode amulets and oraciones, understand the practice and learn why they hold the key to understanding the Filipino.
 
Santeros Filipinos and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts presents Liwanag at Misteryo: A Lecture Series on Katutubong Karunungan. Speakers include NCCA Chairman Felipe de Leon, Jr speaking on Philippine cosmology, NCCA Commissioner Joycie Dorado Alegre speaking on Contemporary Babaylan practices, Psychologist Mr. Eric DeSilva speaking on his extensive research on the basics of the practice of Lihim na Karunungan. Other speakers are actual folk magick practitioners who will explain spell casting, the amulets and prayers, healing and healing techniques. Liwanag at Misteryo will be held at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts 633 General Luna Street, Intramuros, Manila 9 a.m. to 5 p.m on October 18 to 19, 2012.
