Chevrolet Cebu gives the all-new Chevrolet Colorado a grand welcome

The third quarter of the year brings yet another milestone from Chevrolet, and it comes in the form of its newest vehicle on offer – the All-New Chevy Colorado. The exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet automobiles and parts in the Philippines, The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI), has got all hands on deck introducing TCCCI’s first truck in the market, and its dealership in Cebu is no exception to this momentous event.

 

Led by Chevrolet Cebu’s President and CEO, Franklyn Ong, the dealership hosted a free concert at the Activity Center of Ayala Center Cebu in honor of the All-New Chevy Colorado, which was proudly set up on display while Cebu’s best classic rock band, Cuarenta, rocked the night away. Guests from the media, Chevrolet Cebu’s bank partners as well as loyal supporters including mall goers and interested buyers were present and were treated to a chance to win Chevrolet merchandise from answering questions on trivia they may have picked up on the Colorado throughout the event. Everyone in attendance was able to check out the Colorado on display for an up close and personal experience.

 

The whole Chevrolet Cebu came in prepared with all the bells and whistles for the Colorado offering. Launching the best and most powerful midsize pick-up truck in its class is certainly a cause for celebration. Chevrolet’s near century of trucking heritage has equipped this particular model with all the things that have worked throughout the years plus the latest technology in diesel engines – the Duramax engine that is specifically created to endure the harshest of driving conditions and was tested in the extreme environments of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. The Colorado presents high stance configuration (badged as Chevrolet Z71) offering high ground clearance to cross through rough terrains and wade through water depth up to 800mm at 7km/hr in cases of flood and passing through muddy areas.

 

The result is a winning combination of power, durability, capability, dependability, comfort, and economy that gives anyone behind the wheel all the freedom in the world to do more and be more in every aspect of their life – may it be as an entrepreneur, parent or adventure seeker, or all combined. The Duramax diesel engine is available in 2.5 and 2.8 liter displacements. The 2.8L automatic variant is capable of producing 180hp @ 3800rpm of power, 470Nm @ 2000rpm of torque making it the best in its class - each 2.8L Colorado is capable of carrying over 1 ton of payload (1136kg to be exact) and towing 3.5 tons without payload and using a braked trailer.

 

Both 2.8L 4x4 variants (manual and automatic) come with a Common Rail Direct Injection system and Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) with intercooler that provides efficient power delivery across the rpm band. It is capable of producing 180hp at 3,800 RPM and 470 Nm at 2,000 RPM when mated to the Colorado’s six-speed automatic transmission. The five-speed manual transmission 4x4 variant produces 440Nm @ 2,000 RPM. 

 

The 2.5L four-cylinder 16-valve 4x2 version has 150 hp at 3,800 RPM and delivers 350 Nm at 2,000 RPM. The 2.5L version is also equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. 

 

Optimized to deliver high torque at low rpm, both Duramax engines are suited for heavy duty applications – from transporting to hauling heavy loads without sacrificing performance. The Chevrolet Colorado has a 3.5 ton towing capacity and is capable of carrying over a ton of payload weight.

 

The Colorado 4x4 variants come with electric drive mode select that allows the operator to choose between two different 4x4 modes as well as 2-wheel drive. Shifting of drive modes while on the fly is possible up to the speed of 100 km/hr. 

 

The all-new Colorado is built on a strong chassis that has dependable torsional rigidity, aided by eight cross members in its step-ladder frame. In addition to rigidity, the stiffer chassis also allows engineers to identify and dial out noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) from the cabin. Additionally, a stiffer chassis also aids in better driving feel and handling over all terrains. 

 

The all-new Colorado rides on a durable suspension system that can handle heavy loads while offering superior handling and comfort. It features a double-wishbone configuration with coil springs and stabilizer bar at the front, while the rear uses semi-elliptical leaf springs.  All Colorado variants are Z71 high stance models that have sufficient ground clearance to traverse through rough terrains and wade through water depth up to 800mm at 7km/hr. 

 

The exterior design of the all-new Chevy Colorado projects a bold, rugged look. At the front, Chevrolet’s internationally recognized gold bowtie and signature dual-port grille are complemented by two large projector-style chrome headlamps that flow into the front fenders. The side-beams of the large hood are three inches high and together with the flared wheel arches, they give the Colorado a high shoulder line and a visibly bolder look. The LTZ variant will be equipped with square fog lights, aiding visibility in poor lighting conditions. A tough metal sump-guard is integrated into the bottom of the front bumper that serves to protect the bottom of the powertrain from rugged terrain and also provides a tougher look to the front-end. 

 

As impressive as the Colorado’s exterior design is, Chevrolet did not hold anything back with the interior design and features of the truck. The larger overall dimensions of the all-new Colorado means more interior space as it offers more head and shoulder room for vehicle occupants, while the ergonomically-designed front seats have a larger range of adjustments to accommodate a wider variety of driver and passenger preferences. The Chevy Colorado also has 25 storage spaces to accommodate documents or loose items.

 

The Colorado has the signature ‘dual cockpit’ front console that is inspired by the legendary Chevrolet Corvette. The design of the instrument cluster in front of the driver resembles that of the Chevrolet Camaro, while all displays, including the digital Driver Information System (DIS) between the speedometer and tachometer, are back-lit with Chevrolet’s signature LED Ice-Blue illumination. It’s DIS has unique features like programmable speed alarm, actual fuel consumed meter and engine hour meter. The center console is equipped with control switches laid out in circular fashion to ensure easy viewing and intuitive operability. The interior features a beige-and-black, two-toned color scheme, complete with metallic inserts to give a sleek and sporty feel.
