Ateneo de Manila honors Macario Pineda in Buwan ng Wika celebrations 


The Ateneo de Manila University’s School of Humanities, with the assistance of its Department of Interdisciplinary Studies and Kagawaran ng Filipino, is honoring the author Macario Pineda (1912-1950) through various events this August at the university’s Katipunan Avenue campus.
 
A number of the country’s literary scholars, led by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, will be presenting various perspectives about Pineda’s works in the lecture series entitled Si Macario Pineda, And Walang Maliw na Bituin: Isang Serye ng Panayam. The lectures, spread out during the whole of August, will be conducted in the Escaler Hall of the Science Education Complex (SEC) from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.  
 
The series will begin with Dr. Lumbera’s lecture, “Ang Bayan sa Nayon sa Panitikan ni Macario Pineda” on August 2. This will be followed by Edgar Calabia Samar’s “Ang Nobelistikong Pagsisiyasat sa mga Nobela ni Macario Pineda” (August 7), D. M. Reyes’s “Ang Enkwentro ng mga Diwata at Mortal sa Ang Ginto sa Makiling at sa Kolektibong Kamalayan ng Timog Asya” (August 9), Fr. Jose Mario Francisco, S.J.’s “Ang Tao at Lipunan sa mga Akda ni Macario Pineda” (August 14), Luna Sicat-Cleto’s “Ang Sanaysay Bilang Tinig ng Rehabilitasyon: Isang Pagbasa ng Sabi ni Ingkong Terong ni Macario Pineda” (August 22), and Eduardo Jose E. Calasanz’s “Ang Eskatolohiya ni Macario Pineda” (August 29).   
Aside from the above, the English translation of Pineda’s Ang Ginto sa Makiling by Dr. Soledad S. Reyes (Gold in Makiling, published by Anvil Publishing), will be launched on August 1, 4:30-6:00 pm, at the Natividad Galang Fajardo Conference Room, De la Costa Hall. There will also be an exhibition on Pineda entitled Sa Bawat Looy na Bulaklak, Ang Langit ni Ka Martin: Macario Pineda, which will run from August 2 to August 30, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Pardo de Tavera Room of the Old Rizal Library Building.
