Go barefoot for One Day Without Shoes on April 10

On April 10, Tuesday, go barefoot and join the annual global movement One Day Without Shoes.

For one day, an hour, or even just ten minutes, TOMS encourages everyone to take off their shoes to understand the importance of shoes and raise awareness for the impact a pair of shoes can make on a child's life.

The campaign this year revolves around asking everyone to do what they normally do but without shoes. Celebrities like Charlize Theron and Lenny Kravitz have participated and TOMS Philippines will celebrate it this year at Greenbelt 3 Park, Ayala Center Makati on April 10, Tuesday.

"We'll be walking around the mall barefoot! This activity is open to all and it's free," TOMS said in a press release. The event will culminate in a mini-concert featuring My Imaginary Friends and Kai Honasan.

TOMS began in 2006, when American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. He came up with the idea of TOMS, which matches every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One.

TOMS has since grown to include an eyewear line, where every pair purchased allows TOMS to also give sight to a person in need.

TOMS partnered with WE International philippines, a SEC registered NGO that raises awareness of and provides sustainable ways to respond to poverty in the Philippines by facilitating economic development through education projects, micro lending, environment initiatives and sustainable business development services.

In 2011, TOMS together with WE International Philippines gave out shoes to Filipino children, many of whom had never had shoes before.

"Every single barefoot person can make a difference. Put yourself in a child's shoes by removing your own!" TOMS said. Press release and photos from TOMS Philippines
