May bagong pakinabang ang halamang tubig na bakong o spider lily, matapos maimbento ng mga estudyante sa University of the Philippines - Diliman mula rito ang external breast prosthesis na makatutulong sa mga breast cancer survivor.
Sa "Next Now," sinabing tinatawag na "Brakong" ang external breast prosthesis na naimbento ng design engineers na sina Emmanuelle Pangilinan at Jason Pechardo.
Itinuturing ng iba na "peste" ang mga halamang bakong, na ngayon ay may malaking pakinabang para sa breast cancer survivors, o mga sumailalim sa mastectomy.
Tumanggap ng international recognition na James Dyson Award ang naturang imbensiyon nina Pangilinan at Pechardo.
Nababago ang sukat ng Brakong sa tulong ng 3D scan at iba pang imaging techniques para tumugma ito sa pangangailangan ng pasyente.
Binubuo ang customized na Brakong sa 3D printer.
"So here we can see that the design of the Brakong itself is inspired by nature. So we use generative design to create this pattern, coral-like or seashell-like pattern that retains the form of the Brakong while consuming less material," sabi ni Pangilinan.
"Brakong is made of plakong, this material, it's a biocomposite made out of all biodegradable materials, all organic. It's composed of bakong pellets and polylactic acid. That way they don't harm the environment," sabi ni Pechardo. --FRJ, GMA News
