Patay sa pamamaril ang team leader ng Iloilo City Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) na rumesponde sa buy-buy-operation na isinagawa ng mga awtoridad sa Barangay Concepcion nitong Linggo.
Sa ulat ng GMA Regional TV Early Edition nitong Lunes, kinilala ang nasawi na si Police Staff Sergeant Michael Malan, na itinuturing isang bayani.
Naaresto naman kinalaunan ang suspek na si Glen "Bongbong" Yturiaga, at live-in partner nito, at isa pang suspek. Nakuha sa kanila ang mga shabu na aabot umano sa mahigit P6 milyon ang halaga.
Sa pahayag na inilabas ng Iloilo City Police Office, sinabi ni City Police Director Coronel Joeresty Coronica, rumesponde ang grupo ni Malan matapos na humingi ng suporta ang mga awtoridad nang magtago sa silid ang suspek sa buy-bust at nagpaputok ng baril.
"SWAT team was dispatched at the area, to neutralize the danger posted by the suspect, being armed and dangerous. PSSg Malan entered the room where the suspect is hiding but, he was shot hitting on his chest. The said Police officer was rushed to Iloilo St Paul’s for immediate medical intervention but, later declared dead," ayon sa pahayag.
Idinagdag nito na nasa 1,156 grams ng shabu ang nakuha sa mga suspek na aabot sa P7.8 milyon ang halaga.
"His heroism will always be remembered as a public servant and his death will not go to vain," ayon sa pahayag patungkol kay Malan.
Nagpaabot din ng pakikiramay si Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas sa pamilya ni Malan, at maging sa kapulisan ng lungsod.
"I am deeply saddened by the report that one of the members of the Swat team was shot and expired during a drug operation in one of the barangays at City Proper area," ani Treñas sa hiwalay na pahayag na nangakong tutulungan ang mga naulila ni Malan.
