ABU DHABI - Opisyal nang sinimulan ng Philippine Mission sa United Arab Emirates ang Overseas Voting period sa pamamagitan ng pre-voting enrollment para sa lahat ng rehistradong botante na Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Sa inilabas na pahayag ng Philippine Embassy na makikita sa kanilang official Facebook page, sinabing ang UAE ang may pinakamalaking bilang ng mga rehistradong Overseas Filipino Voters sa mundo.

Umaabot ito 189,396, batay na rin sa talaan mula sa Commission on Election’s Certified List of Voters (CLOV) para sa Abu Dhabi at Dubai.

Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon, maaaring bumoto ang mga Filipino Overseas Voters sa UAE at mga nasa ibang bansa sa pamamagitan ng kanilang mobile devices o internet.

“We started overseas absentee voting 20 years ago in response to the clamor of our Overseas Filipinos to have their voices heard in electing our nation’s leaders, and in turn substantively participate in charting the destiny of our country," pahayag ni Ambassador Alonso Ferdinand Ver sa mga dumalo sa briefing na ginanap noong March 20.

"Election is the purest exercise of that participation in our political process where all Filipinos, regardless of their status or background, will have equal and same rights to cast just one vote,” patuloy niya.

Dagdag pa ni Ver, “With the online voting being piloted for our kababayan overseas – a historic first in the history of our country’s democracy - we now call on everyone’s utmost participation and engagement from our part to make this new mode of voting work and succeed.”

Sa pamamagitan ng Philippine Country Team sa UAE, na binubuo ng Philippine Embassy sa Abu Dhabi at Philippine Consulate General sa Dubai, isinagawa ang simultaneous joint briefing noong March 20 para sa Filipino community leaders, media outlets, organizations at  key stakeholders sa naturang bansa.

Sa naturang pagtitipon, ipinaalam sa mga dumalo ang bagong ipatutupad na Online Overseas Voting system para sa darating na National and Local Elections (NLE) na gaganapin sa darating na Mayo.

Isinagawa nina Ambassador Ver at Consul General to Dubai Marford Angeles ang briefing sa pamamagitan ng hybrid format via live broadcast at online streaming.

Kasama rin nila si Commission on Elections (Comelec) Director Ian Michael Geonaga, bilang resource speaker.

Binigyan-diin ni Consul Angeles ang kahalagahan ng partisipasyon ng mga Filipino voter sa darating na halalan. Umaasa siyang makikibahagi sa naturang proseso ang malaking bilang nga Pinoy sa UAE.

“Our Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai are moving as one government to ensure all Filipino voters in the UAE are able to cast their ballots. Each vote counts and matters – for this is the voice of the people. By leveraging technology and with everyone’s support, we hope for the widest participation of Filipino voters in the UAE as we have the highest number of registered overseas voters all over the world,” ayon kay Angeles.

Paalala ng Philippine Embassy, na "live" na ang official enrollment link para sa Internet Voting. Tanging ang mga Pinoy na nakarehistro para sa online voting ang maaaring mag-enroll hanggang sa May 7.

Nagpaalala rin ang embahada sa mga Pinoy na mag-ingat sa mga manloloko at tanging ang official website lang nila ang gamitin.

Sinabi naman ni Emma Wenceslao Sentones, presidente ng The Global Filipino Community Association (TGFCA), na tutulong ang community leaders sa Abu Dhabi para magbigay ng impormasyon sa mga Pinoy sa UAE tungkol sa naturang proseso.

“Aside from calling the meeting to disseminate the information, we are posting, sharing the information to our GC groups to spread the message. We are also ready to assist any registered Filipino voters who will have difficulties in accessing the link or finding it hard to vote online,” pahayag niya.

Inihayag din ni Sheryl Palacios Manalo, board member ng Bayanihan Council Abu Dhabi, ang suporta sa hangarin ng embassy officials na ipaalam sa mga Pinoy doon ang tungkol sa online voting.
