Matapos ang 29 na taon sa serbisyo, nagretiro na ang Filipino-American executive chef ng White House sa Amerika na si Cris Comerford.

Sa mahabang panahon ng kaniyang pagsisilbi sa White House, limang pangulo ng Amerika at mga pamilya ng mga ito ang kaniyang napaglingkuran.

Ayon sa Washington Post, kinumpirma ng tagapagsalita ni First Lady Jill Biden ang pagreretiro ni Comerford.

Naglabas ng pahayag si FL Biden para papurihan si Comerford sa kaniyang pagseserbisyo.

“I always say, food is love. Through her barrier-breaking career, Chef Cris has led her team with warmth and creativity and nourished our souls along the way. With all our hearts, Joe and I are filled with gratitude for her dedication and years of service,” ayon sa Unang Ginang ng US.

Nagsanay si Comerford sa French classical techniques at nagpakahusay sa ethnic and American cuisine. Taong 1995 nang kinuha siya para magtrabaho sa White House sa administrasyon ni Clinton, bilang assistant ng noo'y executive chef na si Walter Scheib III.

Taong 2005 nang piliin si Comerford ng noo'y First Lady Laura Bush para maging kauna-unahang woman executive chef ng White House, bukod pa sa pagiging unang chef na hindi "puti" para sa naturang posisyon.

Isinilang si Comerford sa Sampaloc, Manila, na anak ni Honesto, na isang school principal mula sa Cuenca, Batangas at Erlinda, na may-ari ng patahian mula sa San Rafael, Bulacan.

Nag-aral si Comerford ng food technology sa University of the Philippines-Diliman.

"I never dreamt I would be working one day here in the White House," sabi niya sa isang panayam ni Susan Nepales noong 2009.

Bilang unang Pinoy na nakahawak sa naturang posisyon sa White House, sabi ni Comerford, "it is a great honor to be bestowed on me and to set a good example, be looked upon as a good model. It is something that I take very seriously on a day by day basis. You want to make sure that you are up there being the best that you can be all the time."

Noong 2014, bumisita sa Pilipinas ang noo'y presidente ng US na si Barack Obama at sinabi niya na pamilyar siya sa lumpia at adobo dahil kay Comerford.

Ayon sa tagapagsalita ni FL Biden, sa Biyernes ang huling araw ni Comerford sa White House.— FRJ, GMA Integrated News
