Sa pagbisita ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa Israel, kabilang sa mga pinasok na kasunduan ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas ay ang pangangalaga sa kapakanan ng mga Pinoy caregiver sa Israel.
Ayon sa Malacañang, pumirma sa panig ng Pilipinas si Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, para sa memorandum of agreement kaugnay sa temporary employment ng mga home-based Filipino caregivers sa Israel.
Sa pamamagitan nito, malaki umano ang mababawas sa sinisingil ng mga recruitment agency sa mga Pinoy caregiver na nais magtrabaho sa Israel.
Nakasaad naman sa inilabas na pahayag ni Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, maaalis ang ibinabayad ng mga Pinoy caregiver sa mga ahente at libu-libong "shekels' [pera ng Israel] ang matitipid ng mga OFW.
Batay sa datos ng Philippine Embassy sa Tel Aviv, 24,000 ng 28,000 Filipino sa Israel ay mga caregiver.
Ayon kay Netanyahu, maging ang kaniyang namayapang ama ay inalagaan umano noon ng Pinoy caregiver.
"There has been a remarkable phenomenon in Israel where thousands and thousands of families have taken heart from the support given by Filipino care workers to the elderly. I am one of those families, Mr. President [Duterte]. My late father, who died at the age of 102, in his later years received incredible care by a caregiver from the Philippines," sabi ni Netanyah.
"Today we’re going to sign an agreement that will knock off as much as $12,000 from the cost of every caregiver. This is money that is taken away from the caregivers and the families, the Israeli families who so want their service. This is an exceptional agreement and I think it heralds the kind of friendship that we are developing," dagdag niya.
Una rito, pinasalamatan ni Duterte ang Israel sa magandang pagtrato sa mga OFW.
Bukod sa usapin ng caregivers, pumirma rin ng kasunduan ang dalawang bansa patungkol sa scientific cooperation at sa kalakalan.— FRJ, GMA News
