Si Senador Sonny Angara ang magiging kapalit ni Vice President Sara Duterte bilang kalihim ng Department of Education (DepEd).

Sa Facebook post nitong Martes, inanunsiyo ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) na si Angara ang napili ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., na mamuno sa DepEd.

"Senator Angara has an extensive legislative history, having championed significant educational reforms since joining the Senate of the Philippines in 2013," ayon sa PCO.

"His notable legislative achievements include the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act and the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K-12)," dagdag niya.

Inihayag din umano ni Marcos sa pulong ng Gabinete nitong Martes ang pagpili niya kay Angara.

“Sonny has agreed to take on the brief of the Department of Education," saad umano ni Marcos, ayon sa pahayag ng Palasyo.
 
Ikinalugod naman ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang pagkakapili kay Angara.

“The DepEd community looks forward to working with the new leadership as we continue our relentless pursuit towards improving the quality of Basic Education in the country,” ayon sa pahayag ng DepEd.

Noong June 19 inihayag ni VP Duterte ang pagbibitiw niya bilang DepEd secretary na epekto sa July 19.

'Deeply honored'

Lubos naman na ikinararangal ni Angara ang tiwala sa kaniya ni Marcos na pamunuan ang DepEd.

“This significant responsibility is one I accept with humility and a profound sense of duty,” sabi ni Angara sa pahayag.

Sinabi pa ng senador na makikipagtulungan siya sa "all sectors of society, including my predecessor, Vice President Sara Duterte, to ensure that every Filipino child has access to quality education.”

Binigyan-diin niya ang kahalagahan ng edukasyon para sa kinabukasan ng bansa.

“I am eager to collaborate with President Marcos and the entire administration in serving our students,” Angara said.

Una nang sinabi ni Angara na hindi niya tatanggihan na pamunuan ang DepEd kung iaalok sa kaniya ng pangulo ang posisyon.

Magtatapos ang termino ni Angara bilang senador sa 2025, at hindi muna siya maaaring tumakbo sa kaparehong posisyon dahil dalawang sunod na siyang nahalal na senador. —mula sa ulat ni Anna Felicia Bajo/FRJ, GMA Integrated News
