Tiniyak ni Senador Sonny Angara na hindi kasama ang political provisions sa isasagawang deliberasyon ng Senado sa Charter change (Cha-cha) para susugan ang mga probisyon na para lang sa ekonomiya.
"Maganda 'yung gagawin ng Senado dahil limitado lamang sa economic amendments ito. 'Di katulad ng [people's initiative] na walang limitasyon... kung sakaling ma-amyendahan ang paraan ng botohan sa pag-amyenda ng Saligang Batas," ayon kay Angara.
"Hindi tatalakayin ng ating subcommittee ang amyendang pampulitika," dagdag niya.
Nitong Miyerkules, binuo ng Senado ang isang sub-committee sa ilalim ng committee on constitutional amendments and revision of codes para talakayin ang Resolution of Both Houses No. 6, na inihain nina Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, at Angara.
Layunin ng RBH No. 6 na amyendahan ang ilang economic provisions sa 1987 Constitution, partikular ang Articles XII, XIV, at XVI.
Sususugan sa resolusyon ang probisyon sa Saligang Batas tungkol sa public services, education, and advertising industry, upang dagdagan ng salitang "unless otherwise provided by law."
Ayon kay Angara, napiling mamuno sa sub-committee, pagtutuunan nila ng pansin ang laman ang RBH 6 para matiyak na limitado at nakatuon ang kanilang deliberasyon.
Iimbitahan umano ng komite ang "wide sector of society and the political spectrum to ensure health discussion and debate," sabi ni Angara.
Iginiit naman ni House Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe, na para sa economic provisions din at hindi ang term extension ng mga opisyal ang pakay ng Cha-cha sa Kamara de Representantes.
Inihayag ito ng kongresista bilang reaksyon sa alegasyon ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na nais ng mga mambabatas na magtagal sa kapangyarihan ang mga Marcos kaugnay sa hakbang ng people's initiative (PI), na paraan para amyendahan ang Saligang Batas.
“Let’s stop resorting to such stories and other shenanigans. We are happy that the Senate is now going to deliberate on it (Resolution of Both Houses on amending economic provisions) because we have been waiting for it for so long,” ani Dalipe.
“The suspicion that we are trying to do this to have somebody become a prime minister or something, records will prove otherwise. I’m challenging those who are accusing the House of Representatives of trying to put in this, you know, pushing for this constitutional amendments or changes in our constitution…show us proof that we are the ones pushing for political changes.
