Tulad ng inaasahan, inihalal ng mga senador bilang lider nila sa Senado sa 19th Congress nitong Lunes si Senador Juan Miguel Zubiri. Ang pinsan ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bong" Marcos Jr., na si Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez naman ang lider sa Kamara de Representantes.

Sa unang pagtitipon ng mga senador para sa bagong 19th Congress, 20 sa kanila ang bumoto para gawing Senate President si Zubiri.

Ang naturang 20 senador ang magiging miyembro ng mayorya sa Senado. Tanging sina senador Risa Hontiveros at Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, ang magiging miyembro ng minorya.

Habang ang magkapatid na sina Alan Peter  at Pia Cayetano, ay piniling maging "independent."

Si Sen. Loren Legarda ang napiling maging Senate President Pro Tempore, habang si Sen. Joel Villanueva, majority floor leader.

Speaker of the House

Sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso, 282 ng 309 kongresista ang bumoto para gawing Speaker ng Kamara de Representantes ang pinsan ni Pangulong Marcos, na si Romualdez.

"I ask you all to accept the duty of service to the people. We are entering the endemic stages and we are confident that with the unity that our President has espoused, we can actually overcome the crippling effects of this pandemic, the political differences that occurred in the recent elections, as well as the global impact [of policies], such as the Ukrainian war," sabi ni Romualdez sa kaniyang talumpati.

"The tasks ahead of us may seemingly be daunting, but our synergy is the seed that will nurture us for the ensuing years," dagdag niya.

Nangako si Romualdez na kapakanan ng mga tao ang kaniyang uunahin.

"I vow to attend to all the concerns of your constituents. I shall try to be as fair as possible and to favor no one. There will be a fair and equitable distribution of resources for the development of our region's regardless of political affiliations," ayon kay Romualdez.

"No one gets left behind. I will keep my office open, available to all the members of the House, for we are the House of the People. I gladly accept your trust and confidence," dagdag niya.

Ang anak ni Marcos na si Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos, ang nagnomina sa kaniyang pinsan na si Romualdez na maging Speaker.

Samantala, nahalal naman si Pampanga Representative Gloria Arroyo bilang House senior deputy speaker.

Ang iba pang inihalal na deputy speaker ay sina Isidro Ungab (Davao), Roberto Puno (Antipolo), , Camille Villar (Las Piñas), Christine Singson (Ilocos Sur) at Raymond Mendoza (TUCP party-list."

Si Rep. Manuel Dalipe ng Zamboanga City ang napiling maging majority leader.—FRJ, GMA News
