Sam Tiratira and Jan Will Sinuto introduced themselves in a big way, leading the Arellano University Lady Chiefs and Chiefs, respectively, to massive upsets in the NCAA Season 100 volleyball tournament last Saturday.
The 5-foot-11 Tiratira was a force at the net, detonating for a career-high 16 points anchored on 12 attacks and four blocks to help the Lady Chiefs put a stain on Colegio de San Juan de Letran's immaculate record with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 victory.
Tiratira's heroics helped Arellano improve to 3-3, proving her worth in the team as one of their prized rookies.
Sinuto, meanwhile, provided the spark off the bench just when the Chiefs needed an answer for the hard-hitting Knights.
The graduating outside spiker put on a show with a double-double effort of 13 points and 14 receptions to propel the Chiefs to a 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 upset win over Letran to hike their record to an even 3-3 slate.
With their big-time performances, Tiratira and Sinuto were named Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Players of the Week, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, nod for the dates March 20 to 22.
Tiratira edged out Letran's Judiel Nitura, Perpetual's Jem Menor and her teammate Laika Tudlasan while Sinuto bested De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde's Christian Aguilar, San Beda's Axel Van Book, Letran's Lorenz Vicente, and Mapua's Arjay Ramos, and Barbie San Andres.
