JRU sweeps Habacon-less San Beda for first win in NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball

Jose Rizal University barged into the win column of the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament after sweeping San Beda University, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22, on Thursday at the Lyceum of the Philippines University Gym in Manila.

The Lady Bombers broke through after losing its first three matches this season.

Patricia Del Pilar led the Lady Bombers with 12 points from 10 attacks and two blocks, while Nicole Deala and Kring Batara had nine points apiece..

For head coach Mia Tioseco, who is celebrating her 53rd birthday today, the win allowed them to overcome a hump they have been struggling with since the season started.

"We were having a hard time to get over the hump of winning. Alam naman namin na halos laban-laban naman lahat ng team so it's just a matter of who wants to win it more. So, doon, kaya siguro doon sila nanggagaling nafu-frustrate sila kaya natuwa sila today na nailabas nila 'yung laro nila talaga," said Tioseco.

San Beda meanwhile had one key cog missing with Angel Habacon recovering from a partial tear in her left knee which she sustained before the volleyball season, according to San Beda head coach Edgar Barroga.

Sofia Katrina Dela Cruz led the Lady Red Spikers with 18 points, while Reyann Cañete added 13 points for the still winless Mendiola crew.
