The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA men's and women's teams both went 2-0 at the expense of their counterparts from Jose Rizal University on Thursday in the NCAA Season 100 volleyball tournament at the San Beda University gym in Manila.
The Lady Altas overcame the tough Lady Bombers, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22, with Shaila Omipon and Winnie Bedana leading the Las Piñas-based squad.
In the fourth set, both teams were tied at 18 before back-to-back errors marred JRU's comeback attempt. Patricia Del Pilar gave the Lady Bombers a chance but another net touch was called on the Mandaluyong-based squad. A net touch was also called on the Lady Altas but Jemalyn Menor and put Perpetual at 23-20. Nicole Deala and Kring Batara put JRU within two, before Pauline Reyes and Winnie Bedana sealed the win for the Lady Altas.
"Hopefully, magdire-diretso kasi malaking kumpyansa sa mga bata na nakadalawang sunod na panalo. Siguro, okay na rin na natalo ng isang set para ma-adjust pa namin 'yung mga kulang namin," Lady Altas head coach Sandy Rieta said.
Omipon had 21 points from 18 attacks and three aces, while Bedana had 15 attacks, three aces, and two blocks for 20 points as Perpetual improved to 2-0.
Deala led JRU with 11 points, while Batara and Del Pilar had 10 points apiece as JRU remained absorbed its second straight loss.
Earlier, Perpetual swept JRU in the men's division, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.
Kobe Tabuga and Jeff Marapoc led the Altas anew with 15 and 13 points, respectively, as the defending champs continue their title defense bid.
Paolo Barrientos, meanwhile, led the Heavy Bombers with 12 points.
Perpetual will face Lyceum of the Philippines University on Saturday, while JRU will go against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on the same day.
