Arellano University made sure to regain its winning ways right away, cruising to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of Lyceum of the Philippines University in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament on Saturday.
The Chiefs, who opened their campaign with a four-set loss to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, vented their frustrations on LPU as they improved to an even 1-1 card while the Pirates slipped to a 0-2 start.
Leading the way are veterans Carl Berdal, Jiwen Sinuto, and Anfernee Curamen with the former pouring in 13 points anchored on 10 attacks, two aces, and one block together with 10 receptions.
Sinuto and Curamen, meanwhile, chipped in 10 and nine markers apiece as they entered the win column of the centennial season.
"Magandang start para sa amin na nakakuha na kami ng isang panalo," head coach Bryan Vitug told GMA News Online.
"'Yung block ['yung naging adjustment namin] kasi nu'ng first game hindi kami masyadong maka-block pero nag-practice kami kahapon and nag-scout kami tutal napanood na rin namin 'yung kalaban namin."
A Curamen rejection and a Sinuto ace saw Arellano marching to a 16-10 cushion in the third set before the 25-year-old Curamen unleashed back-to-back hits, including a running attack that made it an 18-12 advantage.
Another block by Curamen and Villados sent last year's fourth place finishers to a 24-19 cushion before an error from LPU allowed Arellano to complete the sweep.
Rookie Isiah Santos paced LPU with 13 points laced with five receptions while Jun Edang provided the lift with eight markers.
