Sophomore star Heart Villaflores impressed in Arellano University's 27-25, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University to bounce back in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday.
The 19-year-old outside spiker registered a team-high 18 points anchored on 17 attacks and one block off the bench to help the Lady Chiefs recover from an opening day loss to rival De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and improve to 1-1.
Arellano broke an 18-all deadlock thanks to back-to-back conversions from Villaflores, whose strong attack gave the wards of head coach Obet Javier a 20-18 lead in the pivotal third set. However, the Lady Pirates were able to force another deadlock at 20-all.
The Lady Chiefs responded with a 4-0 run fueled by Villaflores and capped by a service ace from Catherine Domasig that made it a 24-20 cushion for Arellano.
Veteran Pau de Guzman put the finishing kick by destroying the two-woman block of LPU to deliver the game-winning point and their first victory in the centennial season after bowing to defending champions Lady Blazers in four sets last Thursday.
Fhaye Mangubat chipped in 10 points while Laika Tudlasan poured in nine markers.
Jaja Tulang paced LPU with 14 points together with seven digs and nine receptions while Johna Dolorito and Vanessa Martin chimed in with nine markers apiece.
