Ruther Abor posted 27 points as Emilio Aguinaldo College overcame a tough challenge from Lyceum of the Philippines University, 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, Thursday in the opening day of the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym in Manila.
After falling against the Pirates in the third set, EAC managed to bounce back and mounted an early 9-5 lead in the fourth set, before eventually taking control of the match.
EAC head coach Rod Palmero said complacency was a factor in the third set hiccup of the Generals.
"Sabi ko sa kanila, you have to learn the lesson para at least magawa nila nang maayos sa susunod," Palmero said.
Abor's 27-point outing was anchored on 23 attacks, two blocks, and two aces, to lead the Generals, while Paul Justine Say added 17 points.
Isaiah Chrys Santos had 12 points, while John Icon Aquino had 11 points for the Pirates.
EAC will go against San Sebastian College-Recoletos on March 1, while LPU will face Arellano University on Saturday.
