Vince Himzon asserts dominance as Letran sends Arellano packing

Vince Himzon led the charge to steer Colegio de San Juan de Letran to an 18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 ouster of Arellano University in their stepladder semifinals clash in the NCAA Season 99 men's volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

The sophomore middle blocker put together 21 points anchored on 20 attacks and one block as the Knights eliminated the Chiefs to set up a second round meeting against second seed Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Bucking a first set hiccup, the wards of head coach Brian Esquibel got their act together in the next sets with Nam Caballero bringing them to a 15-11 cushion in the crucial fourth set.

Himzon then unleashed his prowess, unloading back-to-back quick kills for a 22-18 cushion while Bembem Bautista brought them to the match point at 24-19.

The Chiefs would still answer with three straight points but Bautista finished it off after completing a combination play, which Arellano challenged for foot fault. Unfortunately, Bautista didn't commit any infraction as Letran cruised to the four-set romp.

Opposite hitter Rylie Sta Maria chipped in 16 points while Bautista and Caballero each poured in 12 and 10 markers.
