Almadro, Letran 'on track' in bringing back glory days | NCAA Philippines

Oliver Almadro has one mission in his homecoming at Colegio de San Juan de Letran: bring its volleyball glory back.

And so far, the Lady Knights are on the right path after winning their first four games to forge a tie at the top of the ladder alongside defending champion De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

"First, ‘yung discipline nila and the eagerness and the will to change the culture and number one, pagmamahal sa school. If you love your school, ‘yung ‘why’ mo, ‘yun ang naglalabas ng result eh," Almadro said on Letran's turnaround in the NCAA Season 99.

"Iisa lang ang goal namin—to bring back the glory of Letran."

(First, their discipline and eagerness and the will to change the culture and number one, love for school. If you love your school and know your 'why,' then the results will come out. That's our goal—to bring back the glory of Letran.)

Letran has a rich volleyball tradition, winning seven titles in the women's division, the last one being in 1999 when the Lady Knights completed a back-to-back feat.

It has also been more than a decade since Letran barged into the Final Four as they reached the finals round for two years in a row in 2011 and 2012, but fell in both times to San Sebastian College-Recoletos and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, respectively.

Almadro is hoping that his return to the school 25 years since wrapping up his collegiate stint would also bear fruit.

"Right now I’m here leading the team and hindi ko in-expect but God has plans, and I hope that God will also lead us to good results. And it’s my way of giving back to Letran dahil napag-aral nila ako," he added.

"I guess we are on the right track."
