Benilde overcomes San Sebastian to remain undefeated

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde overcame a second set hiccup against San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-13, 23-25, 25-13, 25-14, to continue its undefeated run in the NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Benilde was up 18-16 in Set 2 before San Sebastian made five straight points and claimed the lead. Jessa Dorog then stopped the bleeding for the Lady Blazers in bid to reclaim the set. San Sebastian led 24-21 before the Taft-based crew salvaged two more as they inched closer, 24-23. Kath Santos, however, sealed the set for San Sebastian to deal Benilde its first set loss in the tournament.

With momentum on their side, San Sebastian opened the third set with a 3-1 lead but Benilde regained control of the set and eventually dominated until the deciding set en route to their 33rd straight win since 2020 and improved to 4-0 this season.

Wielyn Estoque had 11 points while Mich Gamit and Jessa Dorog chipped in 10 points apiece for the Lady Blazers. Cloanne Mondoñedo had 19 excellent sets and six points.

Kath Santos paced the Lady Stags with 17 points while Amaka Tan had 12 points as San Sebastian remained winless in four games.

On Sunday, Benilde will face Colegio de San Juan de Letran while San Sebastian will go against Arellano University.
