Gia Maquilang shines as Letran sweeps Perpetual for second win

Rookie Gia Maquilang stood out as Colegio de San Juan de Letran swept University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 25-21, 25-20, 30-28, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Maquilang registered 19 points anchored on 16 attacks, two aces, and a block, on top of 11 digs, as the Lady Knights went off on a 2-0 start after winning against Arellano University last Wednesday.

Perpetual was leading 23-21 in the third set before the Muralla squad took the lead, 25-24. The match was tied anew at 28 before Maquilang scored back-to-back and deliver the win for Letran.

Aside from Maquilang, Yen Martin had 10 points, while Judiel Nitura had nine points. Natalie Estreller had 18 excellent sets and four points.

Shai Omipon had 19 points for Perpetual, while reigning Most Valuable Player Mary Rhose Dapol was limited to four points as the Lady Altas slipped to 1-1.

Earlier, the Perpetual men's team swept their counterparts in Letran, 26-24, 25-21, 25-19.

Reigning MVP Louie Ramirez had 27 points from 25 attacks and two blocks, while Jefferson Marapoc had 11 points.

Perpetual improved to 2-0 while Letran went down to 1-1.
