Reyann Cañete excited on NCAA return with new team San Beda

Reyann Cañete is back in the NCAA.

After missing Season 98 due to residency, the former San Sebastian College-Recoletos standout will don the colors of San Beda University when they compete in the Season 99 women's volleyball tournament which is slated to open this Sunday.

"Maganda 'yung community ng San Beda," Cañete, who also played in the beach volleyball tournament where they ended up as runners-up, told GMA News Online about her new environment.

(The San Beda community is nice.)

Aside from her, the Red Lady Spikers will also have a new figure on its side as Edgar Barroga takes over as the new head coach -- an advantage which is being maximized by Cañete.

"Okay naman po siya kasi maganda ang pagiging coach niya," said Cañete.

"Coach ko na siya noong senior high ako sa RTU (Rizal Technological University). Naging coach ko siya ulit, okay naman kasi napalakas niya kaming lahat. Nilalabas niya 'yung good character namin."

(His coaching is good. He was my coach back in senior high when I was in RTU. He made us stronger and brought out our good character.)

Asked why she chose to transfer to San Beda, the excited Cañete said the university is a good school, on top of the scholarship she receives.

But is she ready to face her former teammates in San Sebastian?

"Lalaban ako," Cañete said, adding that she remains good friends with them.

"Ate pa rin nila ako."

(I'll fight...I'm still their older sister.)

San Beda will open its campaign on Tuesday against Lyceum of the Philippines University.
