Oliver Almadro has come home to his alma mater as the decorated tactician has been tapped to lead the Colegio de San Juan de Letran's overall volleyball program with a focus on the women's team.
Letran's athletic director Fr. Vic Calvo O.P. confirmed the news to GMA Integrated News on Friday night as the school looks to revive its volleyball program starting in NCAA Season 99.
"I am happy to have one of the top minds in Philippine volleyball. The Letran volleyball program will be handled by him with a primary focus on women's volleyball," Calvo said in a short message.
"Because he is from Letran, he fits in well with Letran."
Almadro, who played for the Knights in the late 90's, brings with him years of coaching experience, which includes him steering Ateneo de Manila University to the UAAP Season 81 title while also serving as a coach in the professional ranks.
Currently, Almadro is at the helm of Petro Gazz in the Premier Volleyball League.
He will inherit a Letran Lady Knights team that fell short in the previous season with a 5-4 win-loss card to finish at fifth spot behind impressive performances from their young guns Julienne Castro, Judiel Nitura, and Natalie Estreller.
