Return to NCAA made extra special as Regine Arocha, Rey Taneo get engaged in All-Star Game | NCAA Philippines

Playing in the recently-concluded NCAA All-Star Game was already special for alumni Regine Arocha and Rey Taneo as they showcased again their talent, but it was made more special with their surprise engagement.

The two players got engaged on Sunday during the All-Star Game at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

"Parang extra special kasi siyempre, gumraduate na ako sa NCAA, nung sinabihan ako na maglalaro ako, naging masaya na ako kasi makakabalik ako rito sa NCAA. Naging extra special siya kasi sa ginawa niyang engagement," Arocha told GMA Integrated News.

("It's extra special because I'd already graduated from the NCAA, when I was told I could play, I was so happy I could return to the NCAA. It was made extra special because it became an engagement.")

Of course, it was also special that the engagement happened in a venue where they played many of their games.

But for Taneo, he just grabbed the special opportunity to ask for marriage in the said event.

"Sa totoo lang, matagal ko na 'tong pinag-isipan, simula nung lumabas ang balita na may All-Star sa men's. Blessed na lang din na ako ang napili tapos pareho kaming magkasama kaya magandang opportunity na mag-propose at this moment. Buti na lang naging successful din," Taneo said.

("Honestly, I've been thinking about this a long time, since it was announced that there would be an All-Star Game for the men's. I'm just blessed that I was selected and we were both part of this so it was a good opportunity to propose at this moment. I'm glad it was successful.")

While Arocha said she was really surprised at the turn of events, they will still have a lot to prepare ahead of the wedding.

"Hindi naman kami nagmamadali so siyempre dapat maging ready sa maraming bagay," the former Arellano spiker said.

("We're not in a rush so of course we need to be ready for a lot of things.")

The two have been together for a year and four months and although it is relatively short compared to other long-term relationships, Arocha said, "'Di naman nasusukat 'yun eh. Du'n talaga 'yun based sa nararamdaman."

("That's not where it's measured. It's also based on how you feel.")

The video of their engagement has reached more than 50,000 reactions, 4,000 shares, and 1.2 million views on Facebook.
