Perpetual sweeps San Beda to move to solo second

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA made quick work of San Beda University, 25-12, 25-20, 25-23, to claim solo second in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday.

Perpetual improved to 5-1, just one win and one loss behind league-leading and defending champion De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

San Beda, meanwhile, is in danger of getting eliminated with a 1-5 card.

The Lady ALTAs took a dominant opening set victory, but found themselves down for most of the second set. The Las Piñas crew, though, staged a late run in the second with Janine Padua giving them the lead off her ace. 20-19

Back-to-back attack errors from San Beda and a Winnie Bedaña kill gave Perpetual a 23-19 cushion before red-hot Mary Rhose Dapol sent them to the set point.

Another error from San Beda gave Perpetual the 2-0 set lead.

Shai Omipon’s attack and Bedaña’s ace saw Perpetual’s lead ballooned to seven in the closing set, 18-11, before the Lady Red Spikers unleashed a 6-0 run led but Trisha Paras to trim their deficit to just one, 21-20.

Dapol then refused to surrender the set, knocking down two consecutive kills for thr match point, 24-24. A crucial attack error from Max Tayag sealed the sweep for Perpetual.

Dapol led the way with 20 points alongside 10 digs while Bedaña and Omipon chipped in 11 markers apiece with the latter contributing three receptions.

Kat Molina paced San Beda with nine points while Paras finished with seven markers.
