JRU pushed to the limit by Letran in five-set thriller; Arellano overcomes San Sebastian

 

Jose Rizal University and Arellano University posted wins in Wednesday's NCAA Season 98 men's volleyball tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.

The Heavy Bombers were pushed to the limit by Colegio de San Juan de Letran before they eked out a win in a five-setter, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 26-28, 16-14.

Bryle Alipan and Matthew Miguel scored 17 points each in JRU's second win in six games, while Windel Laurenciana proved to be a two-way weapon as he made 13 points along with 19 excellent receptions and five excellent digs. Kenneth Daynata chipped in 12 points in the JRU win.

The win spoiled Vince Himzon's 27 points and Chrisler Ambrocio's 19 points for Letran which fell to 2-3.

 

 

Later in the day, Arellano University bucked a first set loss against San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16, 25-14. Anfernee Curamen led the Chiefs with 18 points on nine attacks and nine blocks.

JRU will face San Sebastian on Saturday, while Arellano will be back in action next Wednesday against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Letran will go against University of Perpetual Help on Sunday to cap weekend volleyball action.
