Arellano University recovered from a tough loss last weekend as it sent San Sebastian College-Recoletos  reeling to a sixth consecutive loss with 27-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-15 win in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday.

Arellano, which was coming off a five-set heartbreaker at the hands of Mapua University last Saturday, improved to 4-2 to tie the Lady Cardinals and Lyceum.

San Sebastian, on the other hand, remained winless at 0-6.

With both teams tied at one set apiece, the Lady Chiefs unleashed 13 attacks in the third set to turn things around while also getting three blocks against none from the Lady Stags as they took a 2-1 lead.

Back-to-back hits from sophomore Kath Santos allowed San Sebastian to cut its deficit to four in the fourth frame, 8-12, before a Dodee Batindaan quick hammer fueled a 5-0 run that saw Arellano up by eight, 20-12.

Errors proved costly for San Sebastian as three infractions from their side sent Arellano the match point, 24-14.

Marianne Padillon led the way for Arellano with 20 points while Laika Tudlasan and Pauline De Guzman chipped in 12 and 11 markers, respectively.

Team captain Trina Abay chimed in with nine points as Arellano strengthened their Final Four hopes.

Arellano will take on De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Wednesday for the Finals rematch while San Sebastian will square off with Jose Rizal University on Saturday.
