Colegio de San Juan de Letran bucked a slow start to add to Jose Rizal University’s woes, 14-25, 16-25,  25-20, 25-17, 17-15, and continue its surge in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday.

Letran has now won its third straight game to improve to 4-1 while the win remained elusive for struggling JRU as it slipped to a 0-6 slate.

After a dominant opening set, the Lady Bombers refused to slow down as the Lady Knights gave away free 10 points off their errors, giving JRU a commanding 2-0 set lead.

But Letran refused to go down without a fight with Juls Castro sparking their rally in the third and fourth sets alongside middle blocker LJ Isar and veteran Cha Cuñada as the Lady Knights sent the game into a decider.

Castro continued her impressive showing with another attack that sent Letran to a much-needed 8-5 cushion in the fifth.

But the Lady Bombers were able to tie things up at 10-all with back-to-back hits from Risa Rose and an attack error from Isar.

JRU had two chances to put the game away but both times were saved by Letran before Cuñada’s crucial ace sent the Knights to match point, 16-15.

Middle blocker Angelique Ledesma then clinched the winning point off her attack as Letran completed the comeback.

Castro finished with 16 points off the bench while Judiel Nitura and Cuñada chipped in 15 and 12 apiece.
