Arellano University regained its winning ways after blanking erstwhile undefeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 26-24, 25-16, 25-16 in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday.
Arellano recovered from a previous loss to University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to improve to 3-1 while Lyceum absorbed its first loss to drop to 3-1 as well.
Johna Dolorito’s attack saw the game knotted at 12-all in the crucial third set before Arellano unleashed a quick 4-0 run capped by a Trina Abay attack off the overpass from Lyceum, 16-12.
The Lady Pirates tried to stage a fightback but Jewel Maligmat’s service error proved costly as the Lady Chiefs secured a much-needed 20-15 cushion.
Abay then completed a running attack for the match point, 24-16, before super rookie Laika Tudlasan put the finishing kick with a powerful hammer.
Marianne Padillon led Arellano with 12 points highlighted by four blocks while Tudlasan and Abay each chipped in 11 markers each in the win.
Joan Doguna paced Lyceum with 13 points as Jaja Tulang and Dolorito chimed in with seven apiece but the Lady Pirates still fell prey.
