Colegio de San Juan de Letran and San Sebastian College-Recoletos thrashed their respective foes to finally barge into the win column of the NCAA Season 98 men's volleyball tournament on Friday.
Letran survived Mapua University in a five-set thriller, 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-13, to recover from an opening day loss to San Beda University and improve to 1-1 while Mapua dropped to a similar 1-1 card.
Michael Christian Doria led the way for the Knights with 19 points built on 17 attacks while Vince Virrey Himzon and Justine Alejandro chipped in 18 and 16 markers each to steer Letran past its Intramuros neighbor.
Mapua leaned on Barbie San Andres who poured in a whopping 26 points alongside nine digs and 25 receptions while Peter Anthony Sanado and Karl Lastimosa chimed in with 17 and 14 markers apiece.
Meanwhile, San Sebastian swept Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21, to pick up its first win of the season following a straight-sets loss to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde last Saturday.
Kyle Villamor and Lheann Andrei Yape each registered 13 points with the former also listing four digs and nine excellent receptions.
San Sebastian hiked its standing to 1-1 while Lyceum fell to a winless 0-2 slate.
