Lyceum makes quick work of San Sebastian for 2-0 start

Lyceum of the Philippines University made easy work of struggling San Sebastian College-Recoletos with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 sweep in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday.

Lyceum, who previously won over Mapua University in five sets, improved to 2-0 while last year’s Final Four member San Sebastian dropped to 0-2.

The Lady Stags looked like it could force a fourth set after being down 0-2 in sets, building a 15-13 lead in the third frane after a KJ Dionisio attack before Johna Dolorito tied things up at 16.

The Lady Pirates then unleashed a quick 3-0 run led by Joan Doguna to take a 20-18 cushion before another ace from her sent Lyceum to the match point, 24-20.

Jewel Maligmat’s attack error saved one point for San Sebastian, but an error from the Lady Stags sealed the clean sweep for the Lady Pirates.

Dolorito and Maligmat each finished with 10 points while Doguna and Jaja Tulang had eight markers apiece.

Kath Santos was the lone Lady Stag in double digit as the sophomore registered 10 markers, seven digs, and three excellent receptions.

Lyceum returns to action in Wednesday against Arellano University while San Sebastian will look to barge to the win column on Sunday against Mapua.
