De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde remained unscathed in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament after sweeping a gutsy Emilio Aguinaldo College squad, 25-17, 25-20, 25-8 on Wednesday at the San Andres Sports Complex.
The repeat-seeking Benilde team improved to 2-0 while host EAC dropped to 0-2.
The Lady Generals, though, didn’t go down without a fight, tying the game at 17-all in the second set before Mich Gamit put the roof on Cath Almazan to bring the Lady Blazers to a 21-19 lead.
Jade Gentapa then completed a combination attack as setter Cloanne Mondoñedo’s one-two hammer sent Benilde to the set point, 24-20. Almazan committed an error on his attack as the Taft crew secured a 2-0 set lead.
Benilde was unstoppable from that point on with Gentapa and Cristy Ondangan joining forces as Benilde built a huge 15-1 cushion in the third.
Almazan tried to lift EAC up but could not pull it off with the Lady Blazers getting enough help from others like Gayle Pascual and Jessa Dorog.
Gentapa led Benilde with 13 points while Ondangan and Pascual chipped in nine and eight markers apiece. Dorog and Gamit each finished with five points to help the cause.
Benilde will look to make it three wins in a row when it takes on winless San Beda University on Saturday while EAC will face Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Tuesday.
