De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde made quick work of San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-17, 25-20, 25-18, as the NCAA Season 98 men's volleyball tournament returned on Saturday after a three-year hiatus.
Georgie Gauani and Ronjey Adviento led the Blazers with nine points apiece while four others in John Carlo Tero, Ryan Daculan, James Paul Laguit, and Leonard Jaboli chipped in seven markers each.
After dominating the first two sets, Reiven Kyle Valera denied Jan Arano's one-two play before his attack on the opposite side made it a 14-9 lead in the third set for the Blazers. Jaboli then notched back-to-back hits while Gauani soared for the 17-11 spread.
Gauani then completed a combination play as Daculan as Lheann Yape's attack went wide, 22-14. Jaboli gave Benilde the match point before Stags' ace Kyle Villamor saved one for San Sebastian.
Completing the sweep victory was Tero's quick kill as Benilde, who had a 5-2 slate in Season 95 before the league called off the games due to COVID-19.
Villamor's 17 points, four digs, and 10 receptions went for naught as San Sebastian went 0-1 early in the tournament.
