CSB completes historic season sweep to win NCAA Season 97 volleyball title

The crown is back in Taft.

College of Saint Benilde dethroned Arellano University to rule the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament after a 26-24, 25-12, 25-9 domination in Game 2 of the Finals on Friday.

The feat will be CSB’s second overall title in the league after copping the crown back in Season 91.

Similar to Game 1, the Lady Blazers had to again fend off early threats from the Lady Chiefs who even lead in the opening frame, 21-20.

Gayle Pascual was able to fuel a 4-1 tear to reach the set point but Arellano tied things up at 24. An error from Arellano, though, gave CSB the extended set, 26-24.

CSB then tightened its defensive crews in Set 2, limiting Arellano to just nine attacks while also collecting 15 of their own with middle blocker Cristy Ondangan showing the way.

The Lady Blazers also had two blocks and two aces to cap off a convincing second set victory.

Pascual again activated her deadly form, steering CSB to a huge 12-2 cushion as Arellano continued struggling in the offense.

Pascual was named Finals MVP after she unleashed a team-high 14 points while Jade Gentapa and Ondangan chipped in 11 and 10 markers each with the team captain contributing 15 digs and four excellent receptions.

With the loss, Arellano faliled to retain the title it held from Season 92 to 94.

Spark plug Pauline De Guzman led Arellano with  10 points while Charmina Dino flaunted an all-around outing of six points, nine digs, and 10 excellent receptions.
