San Beda’s two-game winning streak a product of persistence, says coach

San Beda University has notched back-to-back wins and head coach Nemesio Gavino believes it was his players' persistence amidst the odds that paved the way for this feat in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament.

After opening their campaign with four consecutive losses, the Lady Red Spikers went on to clinch their first win against Emilio Aguinaldo College before turning back Mapua University on Friday to improve to 2-4.

Gavino admitted they had a difficult time setting up a bubble training, but glad to see their hard work pay dividends now.

“Nung nag-bubble kami medyo emotional ‘yung mga bata kasi malayo sa magulang, malayo sa pamilya,” Gavino shared on the heels of their 25-20, 14-25, 35-24, 25-23 conquest of Mapua.

According to the coach, they struggled to fill in the positions since they came from a nearly three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

It also didn’t help San Beda’s cause that a number of core players graduated since the league stopped in March 2020.

“Isa sa mga naging problema namin ‘yun. Then nung nag-start kami sa bubble, one month lang NCAA na eh so short preparation talaga.
