Despite 3-0 start, coach Jerry Yee insists CSB still has a long way to go

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde may be undefeated in three games so far, but head coach Jerry Yee insisted his team still has a lot to work on moving forward in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament.

The Lady Blazers picked up their third win in a row on Sunday, defeating Colegio de San Juan de Letran in four thrilling sets, 25-14, 17-25, 25-11, 25-15, to remain as the lone spotless team in the league.

Prior to their domination of the Lady Knights, CSB first swept San Beda University and Lyceum of the Philippines University, making a strong case for a possible championship this year.

But Yee said their game is far from perfect.

"Madami pang iwo-work out so 'yun 'yung take natin this game," said Yee.

Against Letran, it was the first time that CSB dropped a set in the tournament as Lady Knights team captain Cha Cuñada led the way in the second set.

According to Yee, they intentionally let their second unit play in the second frame but with a little experience, Letran came away with a 25-17 second frame victory to even the match.

"We try to let the second stringers play na sila lang mismo then ayun, na-rattle. So, at least we saw what we had to work on."

And as they continue their campaign, Yee stressed they will try to build depth by working on their bench.

"Gano'n talaga, we need playing time," Yee shared.

"So artificially, ginawa talaga natin 'yung second set na gano'n, tinry natin and then nakita natin 'yung result. Could have been better kung lumaban or maganda 'yung showing, kaso hindi. But at least alam natin."

Team captain Mycah Go agreed, saying their 3-0 slate may be a good start to the season but said they haven't proven anything yet.

"'Yung 3-0, para sa'min, wala pa 'yun kasi 'di pa kami nangangalahati sa season. Marami pang mangyayari sa future," Go, who posted 17 points, 17 digs, and 14 excellent reception in the win, said.
