Lyceum of the Philippines University picked up a 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23 victory against struggling San Beda University to get back in the win column of the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Lyceum now improved to 2-1 to follow up its previous loss to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde while San Beda remained winless in three games.
After a dominant 25-19 opening set victory, the Lady Pirates slowed down in the second frame with the Lady Red Spikers building a slim 19-16 lead. But Lyceum roared back with back-to-back service aces by setter Venice Puzon tying the game at 19.
Jaja Tulang continued her sensational showing, helping Lyceum regain the lead, 22-19, before a Zonxi Dahab block on Maxinne Tayag made it a 23-19 affair. Marianne Tayag then failed to get her service in before a middle attack by Tulang sealed the second set for Lyceum, 25-22.
Lyceum faltered in the third, committing 11 errors while only converting six attacks as San Beda refused to go down without a fight with a 25-20 third set win.
Lyceum then trailed for most of the fourth set but a one-two play by Puzon put the Lady Pirates up, 23-22, before a Dahab denial gave the wards of head coach Cromwel Garcia the match point, 24-23.
Dolorito capped off the game by swiping the leather off the hands of Patricia Mañalac as Lyceum completed the victory, 25-23.
Lyceum will try to notch its third win when it goes up against Arellano University on Tuesday while San Beda battles Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Wednesday.
