Lyceum of the Philippines University survived a tight match against University of Perpetual Help System DALTA with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-16 win to jumpstart its campaign in NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament.

The opening set saw both teams exchange attacks but the Lady Pirates still came out on top to go a set ahead, 25-23, with Johna Dolorito leading the way.

The open spiker continued to impress in the second frame, steering Lyceum to take a much-needed 18-16 spread off her service ace.

Perpetual tried to mount a rally but a micommunication on the side of Lyceum turned into a point with Lois Sta. Maria notching the set point, 25-19.

Another close third set saw the two teams knotted at 10 points apiece before Lyceum pulled away with a 9-1 barrage led by Zonxi Dahab and Venice Puzon, 19-11.

A pair of errors from the Lady Altas formally handed Lyceum the sweep.

Lyceum is up for a tough task as it goes against powerhouse College of Saint Benilde on Wednesday while Perpetual clashes with Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Friday.
