Basketball stars CJ Perez and Baser Amer lead the 10 notable athletes given recognition during the NCAA Season 100 kickoff on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Perez earned prominence during his time with Lyceum of the Philippines University, leading the Pirates to back-to-back finals appearances in Season 93 and 94 where they both lost to San Beda University. In Season 93, Perez, who now plays for San Miguel, also earned the MVP and Mythical Five inclusion.
As a national team member, Perez was also part of the Gilas Pilipinas squad that won gold medals in recent SEA Games and Asian Games last year.
Amer, currently part of NLEX in the PBA, was also honored after having led the San Beda University to four titles and was also part of past Gilas Pilipinas team that ruled the 2015 and 2017 SEA Games.
Sidney Onwubere, who is now seeing action for NorthPort, was also inducted following years of representing Emilio Aguinaldo College from juniors to seniors division.
Also included in the ten notable athletes are two-time MVP Louie Ramirez of Perpetual men's volleyball team, Allyn Bulanadi of San Sebastian College-Recoletos men's basketball team, Regine Arocha of Arellano women's volleyball team, RJ Jazul of Letran men's basketball team, and Rence Nocum of Mapua men's basketball team.
The NCAA also picked athletes outside of basketball and volleyball with Ryan Jacolo, who plucked five titles in table tennis while also bagging five MVP plums in the process for De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, and Mark Harry Diones, who won four gold medals with JRU's track and field squad.
