Chiefs still on top.
The Arellano University (AU) Chiefsquad flaunted a near-perfect routine to rule the NCAA Season 99 Cheerleading Competition and clinch an unprecedented fifth straight crown on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
Arellano, which performed a police-themed display, garnered a total of 253.5 points to capture its first five-peat feat, reigning supreme since Season 92, where it dethroned then defending champion and powerhouse University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
Since then, Arellano proved indestructible with head coach Lucky San Juan guiding the squad.
They just showed just that again today, throwing up in-sync tosses, strong tumblings, and unblemished pyramids to emerge as the top performer among 10 NCAA schools.
No once came close, except for Perpetual and Colegio de San Juan de Letran, which settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively, as all three schools returned to the podium in exactly the same position they held from the previous edition.
With a boxing-inspired performance, the ALTAs Perpsquad was able to amass 231.5 points while the Letran Cheering Squad, dedicating its routine to its late head coach Arnold Villanueva who passed away last February 10, its collected 206 markers for back-to-back third place finishes.
Mapua University ended up at fourth place while both San Beda University and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde are tied up fifth spot. Following suit are Emilio Aguinaldo College, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Jose Rizal University, and Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Watch the broadcast of the cheerleading competition on Sunday, 10:30 a.m. on GTV.
