Letran, San Beda continue perfect run in NCAA beach volleyball tilt

Colegio de San Juan de Letran and San Beda University extended their respective perfect runs in the NCAA Season 99 women's beach volleyball tournament on Friday in Subic, Zambales.

The Lady Knights and the Lady Red Spikers improved to similar 6-0 cards to forge a tie at the top spot.

Letran, bannered by the duo of sophomore Lara Mae Silva and rookie Gia Maquilang, eked out a 21-14, 21-14 victory against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, making it six straight games without dropping a single set.

San Beda, meanwhile, survived a second set hiccup against University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 21-18, 15-21, 15-13, to protect its immaculate campaign thus far.

The Lady ALTAs, who made the finals last season, dropped to 5-1 followed by Arellano University and Emilio Aguinaldo College, who both have 4-2 records.

Benilde is at seventh spot with 1-5 while San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Mapua University, and Lyceum of the Philippines University remain winless.

In the men's division, defending champion Perpetual continued its surge after sweeping San Beda, 21-17, 21-19, to hike its record to 5-1 and gain the solo top spot.

JRU, who was the lone team to defeat Perpetual so far, pulled off a 21-16, 21-11 sweep against LPU to tie Benilde and Arellano at 4-2. San Sebastian and EAC both feature an even 3-3 record followed by Mapua (3-2), San Beda (2-4), and Letran (1-5).

LPU is the only winless team with a 0-5 card.
