San Beda rules NCAA taekwondo

San Beda University reigned supreme in the taekwondo tournament of NCAA Season 99 as they took home the men's and women's teams overall championships.

The taekwondo tournament was held last November 15-16 at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

Kyorugi and Poomsae were part of this season's taekwondo tournament hosted by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

San Beda's Katrina Mariano, the Most Valuable Player for the women's division, said winning the top individual plum was just a bonus for her.

"Ang goal naman po namin is mag-champion. Bonus na lang po 'yung MVP kasi lahat kami dito trinabaho ito at nag-sacrifice para makamit ang championship," Mariano said in JP Soriano's Balitanghali report in November 17, 2023.

("Our goal was the become champion. The MVP is just a bonus because all of us here worked hard and sacrificed to reach the championship.")

Mariano's schoolmate Jaybe Bermudez, the men's MVP, said the recognition was the result of their hard work.

"It pays off. All those struggles, sacrifices, blood, sweat, time, luha namin. It pays off talaga," he said.

("It pays off. All those struggles, sacrifices, blood, sweat, time, tears. It really pays off.")

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NCAA taekwondo competitions were held online.
