NCAA metes 1-year suspension vs PCU

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Policy Board on Monday imposed a one-year suspension on Philippine Christian University (PCU), which was found guilty of utilizing four junior players with "switched identities." The Policy Board, who met Monday at Jose Rizal University in Mandaluyong City and chaired by incoming president and Jose Rizal University head Vincent Fabella, approved the recommendation of the management committee who made the investigation on the allegation that several Baby Dolphins were "illegal." Mancom head Henry Atayde of the College of St. Benilde first found out that Jaypee Importanta was using a different name but later discovered that Victor Miguel Oliveros and brothers James Degano and Cesar Degano likewise used different names while playing for the team. Because of these, Mancom's first recommendation to reorganize the Baby Dolphins management team was replaced with the one-year suspension. Due to the NCAA decision, the PCU Dolphins will not be able to defend their crown in the basketball tournament. But unlike in the juniors case, the league is not asking PCU to return the seniors' trophy. The NCAA has suspended a member school with a one-year hiatus for the first time. But the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines was the first to do so. La Salle was not able to play during the recent season in the NCAA because of using ineligible players. Before the La Salle's case, Adamson was likewise suspended for one year a few years back. - GMANews.TV
