NCAA suspends players, referees involved in EAC-Mapua brawl

A total of 71 players were slapped with suspensions following the bench-clearing brawl that broke out during the basketball game between Mapua Institute of Technology and Emilio Aguinaldo College on Monday.
 
Referees officiating the match Molly de Luna, Menard Ballecer, and Cholo Caoile were also fined and suspended indefinitely.
 
EAC's John Tayongtong, who elbowed Mapua's CJ Isit that ignited the brawl, was punished with a five-game suspension.
 
Meanwhile, Mapua's Leo Gabo, who shoved Tayongtong following the non-call on the elbowing episode, is set to serve a four-game suspension.
 
"The Mancom condemns in the highest level the unfortunate incident that occured in the Mapua-EAC game," said the NCAA management committee in a press release.
 
"Hooliganism has no place in an established league like the NCAA."
 
Three-game suspension - Jomari Tubiano (Mapua), Jan Jamon, Ariel Aguilar, Jack Arquero (EAC)
 
Two-game suspension - Justin Serrano, James Galoso, Exequiel Biteng, Andrew Estrella (Mapua), John Santos, Manelle Quilanita, Edsel Saludo (EAC)
 
One-game suspension - Jerome Canaynay, Ronnel Villasenor, Darrel Magsigay (Mapua), Faustine Pascual (EAC)
 
No suspensions were given to Jessie Saitanan, CJ Isit, Joseph Eriobu, Jeson Cantos, Jerald Serrano, Christ Mejos, Ai Indin, and Jozhua General. — JST, GMA News
