De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde La Salle Green Hills defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 100-92, on Sunday in the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym in Manila.
Benilde-LSGH had its biggest lead, 61-43, after a Gillian Quines basket at the 6:50 mark of the third period before the Junior Pirates inched closer and trailed 87-79 with 5:14 left in the fourth period. Back-to-back baskets from Quines put Benilde-LSGH at a 12-point gap before Jericho Abrantes completed a three-point play.
James Ison and Arle Podador immediately stopped the Junior Pirates' attempt for a late game rally, but Abrantes' baskets with a Quines shot in between put LPU within eleven, 97-86, with 1:43 left.
Quines then connected from rainbow country for the dagger and put Benilde-LSGH at the century mark with 1:32 left despite LPU's 6-0 run afterwards.
Quines dropped 31 points to go with six assists, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, while Gian Gomez added 18 points as Benilde-LSGH improved joined the logjam in the middle of the standings at 4-3, along with San Beda University and Emilio Aguinaldo College.
The win spoiled Abrantes' 30-point outing as the Junior Pirates were officially eliminated from semis contention with their 0-7 win-loss record.
Mapua University, on the other hand, boosted its Final Four bid with a win against Jose Rizal University, 74-61.
Ruzzel Del Poso had 21 points, three rebounds, and a steal, while Allan Laurenaria registered a double-double performance of 16 rebounds and 12 points, along with three blocks, an assist, and a steal as the Red Robins improved to 5-2.
Lexi Callueng had 12 points, while James Almario had 11 points as the Heavy Bombers slipped to 2-5.
