José Rizal University tapped its former player Nani Epondulan as the new head coach of the Heavy Bombers.
The university announced the development on Friday.
"José Rizal University has welcomed home one of its own, appointing 77th NCAA Most Valuable Player Ernani Epondulan as the new head coach of the basketball team," JRU said in its post.
"The appointment marks a significant moment for the university, bringing back a legendary player to guide the next generation of JRU basketball stars."
"His return signals a renewed focus on the values that have made JRU a powerhouse in the past," JRU added.
Epondulan was the NCAA Season 77 Most Valuable Player where he led the Heavy Bombers to the finals. However, San Sebastian College-Recoletos took home the crown that season.
He was also part of Randy Alcantara's coaching staff in Mapua University which won the Season 100 men's basketball title.
He will replace Louie Gonzalez who handled the team from 2019 to 2024. In Season 100, JRU finished last with a 4-14 card.
