Bouncing back the key as Benilde moves forward from first loss | NCAA Philippines

After losing their first match against Colegio de San Juan de Letran, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is moving forward, aware that they are running on a long season.

"I'm sure they're all frustrated, they really felt they let that game slip away. But as we said, it's a long season, and one game doesn't define your season," Benilde head coach Charles Tiu said on the heels of their 103-78 win against Lyceum of the Philippines University last Friday.

"It's about how you bounce back, and how you find ways to get back on the winning track. So thankfully, they responded well today, and we were able to come out with a win."

While the win also registered Benilde's highest win under Tiu, the Blazers head coach said they are still trying to be better.

"I think we're far from our potential. Hopefully, with this game, it gives us some more confidence to start scoring a bit better."

Apologetic Ancheta

Against LPU, Benilde did not have one of their trusted players in Jhomel Ancheta after he was disqualified in the game against Letran, Tiu said the first year player has been apologetic for what happened.

"I told him, number one, it looks bad on him, and I know he's not that type of a guy. But I said, if you look at what you did, if you look at your comments on Facebook, everybody's bashing you. That's not the type of player image we want for him," Tiu said.

"He's apologizing... I guess nabigla raw siya. So he's apologetic, but definitely we let him know that that's not acceptable for us. That's something he has to work on. For us, you have to represent your school and your name well. We don't want people talking bad about you."

Benilde, which currently has a 5-1 record, will take on San Sebastian College-Recoletos next on Tuesday.

"Mas nakakatakot nga pag galing sa losing streak, mas hungry mga 'yon. You saw how they started the season. They have some real talent, especially si Are, really good. We have to prepare for their guards. They're going to be solid. Good test for us still. We have a tight schedule next week. It's important that we start it with a win."
