With shaky start, Escueta says San Beda may need to relearn lessons from last year | NCAA Philippines

They may be the defending champions, but San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta admitted that the Red Lions may have to relearn some lessons as their title defense bid was off to a shaky start.

San Beda has yet to build a streak since their opening day victory against host Lyceum of the Philippines University. After that, they absorbed a loss against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, followed by a win against San Sebastian College-Recoletos.

The Red Lions then were on the receiving end of an upset as Emilio Aguinaldo College notched its first win against the Mendiola-based squad since joining the league in 2009.

After that, San Beda vented its ire against Jose Rizal University.

"It's a different team. We might need to relearn everything we learned last year," Escueta said.

"As a coach, 'di ko puwede i-expect na alam nila [lahat]. Although we still have seven guys from last year's team, kailangan, keep coaching and keep teaching what we're trying to do in our system, our principles, and mantra. Even attitude side, kailangan ituro lahat."

Escueta also credited EAC for the historic win and blamed no one and just focused on their game against Perpetual.

"Experienced talaga 'yung players nila in terms of playing tough games. As for us, we try to learn everything from wins and losses. We'll keep on learning lang."

Team captain Yukien Andrada, meanwhile, added that they just need to give their best as the season progresses.

"We have to play our 100% from now until the end of the season," he said.

San Beda will face Arellano University next on Saturday.
