JRU, Letran eye breakthrough win; Perpetual takes on Arellano | NCAA Philippines

Jose Rizal University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran are both eyeing to enter the win column when they open Friday's games in NCAA Season 100 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

The Heavy Bombers lost to their first game against University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 82-66, while the Knights fell to San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 91-84.

Joshua Guiab led the Mandaluyong-based squad in its opener as he posted 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Kobe Monje had six points in the Letran loss.

"We all hope na makabawi kami sa susunod na game, mas tapangan pa namin ‘yung paglalaro namin para hindi na umabot sa gano’ng point ulit. Hindi naman ako nawawalan ng pag-asa sa mga bata basta hindi ko iiwan ‘yang mga yan," Letran head coach Allen Ricardo previously said.

JRU and Letran will face each other at 12 p.m.

After that, the Altas will eye to notch another win when the go against Arellano University.

Rookie Mark Gojo Cruz shone in his debut for the Altas with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block as Olsen Racela also made his coaching debut in the NCAA.

Racela said they are still adjusting despite getting their first win.

"We're learning. We're still adjusting sa isa't isa, sa system, sila sa akin, ako sa kanila, and ako sa liga. I'm just happy na nakuha na namin 'yung first win and now we move forward after this," Racela previously said.

Arellano, meanwhile, lost to Emilio Aguinaldo College in overtime, 87-80, with Lorenz Capulong leading the Chiefs with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Perpetual and Arellano will play at 2:30 p.m.
